Pioneer Baseball Team Start Conference Opener
The Pioneer Baseball team played three games the week of March 25–29, this includes Prairie Grove, Siloam Springs, and Gravette. The baseball team started in Praire Grove in the conference opener, and the Pioneers took a 2-4 loss.

Lady Pioneer Soccer Wins Conference Title
Last week, the Gentry Lady Pioneer soccer team, also known as the current 4A defending state champions, achieved the conference championship title after playing back-to-back games.
Pole Vault State Champ
Junior Cole Cripps, along with the Gentry Senior High track team, traveled to Nashville, Arkansas, to participate in the state track meet. Cripps participated in pole vault and jumped on Tuesday, May 2nd.
Soccer is a Magical Game
The Pioneers played against the Prairie Grove Tigers for senior night on Friday, May 6th. The last time the two teams played, the Tigers won big against the Pioneers. This game was the Pioneer seniors last game.
Clark Signs with West Texas A&M
On Wednesday, May 4th, senior Wyatt Clark signed with West Texas A&M University in the Pioneers Activity Complex.
When asked how he felt about signing with West Texas A&M University, Clark said, “I am super excited to be signing with WTAMU. It is a great school with a lot of opportunities and many great people.”
Lady Pioneers Celebrate Their Season
The Lady Pioneers will have a post-season banquet to celebrate their 2016 season. The banquet will be on May 11 at 6:00. Several awards will be given at the banquet.
Pioneer Boys Run Conference
The junior high Pioneers had their conference championship last Thursday in Gravette. The Pioneer track teams are well known for all of their district championships. The junior high team finished with the runner-up trophy this year.
Lady Pioneers Are 6-0 in Conference Play
On April 25, the Gentry Lady Pioneers took on the Green Forest Tigers in their sixth conference game of the season. Senior Ana Linch started the game off with a goal in the first half, assisted by junior Amber Ellis.
End of the Season for Lady Pioneer Softball
The Lady Pioneers first game of the conference tournament was against the Lady Eagles of Huntsville. The game was played on Thursday, April 28th, at 2:00. It was a good game to kick off the tournament for the Lady Pioneers.
Just Having Fun on the Field
The Pioneers played against the Green Forest Tigers on Monday, April 25th. The Pioneers played a little sloppy in the first half, and the Tigers were able to score in the first 3 minutes.
Senior Night for the Lady Pioneers
The Lady Pioneers hosted the Siloam Springs Lady Panthers on April 26. It was senior night for the Lady Pioneers. Seniors on the team include Christina Barber, Sabra Philpott, and Mekalah Ramsey. The Lady Pioneers only had a small ceremony in between the varsity and JV games. The seniors will also get recognized at the banquet after the season ends.
Pioneer Baseball Senior Night
The Pioneers battled their rivals, the Gravette Lions, on Monday, April 25th at home for senior night. The Gentry Pioneers beat the Gravette Lions 7-1 in seven innings.
Lady Pioneers Near the Finish
The Lady Pioneers traveled to Gravette on April 22 to play the Lady Lions. This game was senior night for Gravette and was both team’s last conference game.
Linch Signs with Evangel
On Friday, April 22, 2016, senior Ana Linch signed with Evangel University to play soccer. Throughout her years of high school, Ana has participated in FCA and FCS, track, and most importantly soccer.
Gentry Scores Another Conference Win
Last Friday night, April 22nd, the Lady Pioneer soccer team took on the Danville Little Johns at their home stadium. Junior Amber Ellis kicked off the game with an early goal in the beginning of the first half.
Loss Eliminates Pioneer Soccer from State
The Pioneers played against the state runner-up, Danville Little Johns, on Friday, April 22nd. The Pioneers needed this win to still have a good change getting into the state tournament. It was a really intense first half.
Powerlifters Awarded by Senator Boozman
On Tuesday, April 19, 2016, Kathryn Gough, Senator John Boozman’s field representative, travelled to Gentry to honor our Pioneer powerlifters. At 9:00 Tuesday morning, all the members of the powerlifting team were presented with certificates.
Home Run in the Fifth
The Pioneers faced the Prairie Grove Tigers on Monday, April 11th at home. The Gentry Pioneers lost 9-0 to the Tigers, despite a total of seven hits.
Gentry Defeats Green Forest
The Lady Pioneers traveled to Green Forest on Thursday, April 21 to play the Lady Tigers. The Lady Pioneers were slow to get started in the game, scoring only 4 runs in the first four innings of play.
Morris Signs with ATU
April 15, 2016, senior Mallory Morris signed with Arkansas Tech University at 11:30 a.m. Morris. Throughout all four years of high school, Morris was involved in sports and many different extracurricular activities.
Gentry Takes Control of Home Meet
The senior high boy Pioneers hosted their home meet last Friday and did quite well finishing in second place. The senior high girls also had a great day, winning 1st by 40 points.
Pioneers Can’t Pull Through
The Pioneers played their 7th conference game against the Huntsville Eagles on Monday, April 18th . This game was a big one for the Pioneers. The Pioneers were without senior starter center middle Jared Rabb due to a bruised rib.
Pioneer Soccer: Putting the Bulldogs to Sleep
The Pioneers played against the Decatur Bulldogs on Thursday, April 14th. The Bulldogs were down 1 player in the beginning of the game, but had another player come later in the game. The Pioneers were without junior defensive middle Aaron Walker and freshman defender Nick Linch.
Lady Pioneers Lose To Pointers
Monday night, April 11, the Gentry soccer teams traveled to Van Buren to partake in yet another soccer game. The junior varsity girls’ team played at 4:00 p.m. and ended up falling to the Pointers by a score of 2-0.
Grand Slam!
The Pioneer baseball team battled the Huntsville Eagles on Monday, April 4th at home. Freshman Ayden Smartt did his best to change the outcome, but Smartt couldn’t lead Gentry past Huntsville as they lost 2-0 in seven innings.
Pioneer Powerlifters Take Nationals
On Friday and Saturday, April 1st and 2nd, 2016, the Gentry Pioneer powerlifters traveled to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to compete in the annual high school powerlifting competition. The Pioneers have 13 lifters.
Another Conference Win
The Lady Pioneers played a conference game against the Prairie Grove Lady Tigers on Monday, April the 11th. Both teams held the game scoreless until after the third, when the Lady Pioneers allowed the Lady Tigers to score 2 runs at the top of the fourth inning.
Big Win for the Pioneers
The Gentry Pioneers took on the Lead Hill Tigers on Friday, April 8th. The Tigers did not have enough boys on their team and had two girls playing for them. The Pioneers started out rough this game but after the first 8 minutes of the game, the Pioneers had it rolling. The first goal was made from sophomore forward Kevin Ochoa from about 5 yards out.
Pioneers Take Over
The Gentry track teams headed to Pea Ridge on Tuesday and Thursday of this week. Both teams did very well, junior high came in second place overall.
Tough Loss for the Pioneers
The Pioneers played against the Eureka Springs Highlanders on Tuesday, April 5th. The Pioneers weren’t having their best day. The Pioneers were without junior defensive middle Aaron Walker due to an injury and freshman defender Nick Linch due to a track meet. The first couple of minutes went great for the Pioneers. Junior goalie Kelsey James had some amazing saves throughout the game. With about 25 minutes left in the first half, the Highlanders were able to send the ball to one of their forwards that was eventually kicked in for a goal. The Pioneers were getting heated and was wanting an offside call on the forward. Unfortunately, the call was never made and the goal counted. The Pioneers were down 1-0. After that goal the Pioneers had some amazing shots that just couldn’t connect with the goal. Senior center middle Jared Rabb had some good-looking shots, but the ball didn’t want to go in the goal. The Highlanders were able to score another goal with about 5 minutes left in the first half.
Almost, but Not Enough
The Gentry Pioneers played the Subiaco Trojans on Friday, April 1st. The Pioneers played great! This was probably their best start since the game against Rogers Heritage. The Pioneers were outstanding with the ball to start off the game. They were able to get their first goal of the game by junior defensive middle Aaron Walker in the first 5 minutes of the game. The Pioneers were setting a tone. A few minutes went by and the Trojans kicked back to their goalie, and senior center middle Jared Rabb followed the kicked and was able to tap it in the goal. With about 25 minutes still left to play, the Pioneers were up 2-0 on the Trojans.
Lady Pioneers Continue Their Season
The Gentry Lady Pioneers played at home on April 4 against the Huntsville Lady Eagles. Gentry played a close game with Huntsville. The game was tied 2-2 at the bottom of the seventh sending the game into extra innings. No runs were scored in the 8th inning and the game went into the 9th. The Lady Pioneers held the Lady Eagles scoreless in the 9th. Going into the bottom of the 9th, freshman Billi Taylor was on second by International Tie Breaker rules. Junior Taylor Hull laid down the sac bunt to advance Taylor to 3rd base. Sophomore Alyssa Kelton hit the walk-off fly ball to score Taylor from 3rd on the tag. Gentry beat Huntsville, 3-2, for their first conference win.
Lady Pioneer Soccer Is 3-0 In Conference Play
On Tuesday night, April 5th, the Gentry Lady Pioneer soccer team seized their third conference win against Eureka High School. In the first half, senior Ana Linch scored two early goals against Eureka’s defensive line.
Batter Up!
On Tuesday, March 29, the Pioneer baseball team battled against the Pea Ridge Blackhawks. Senior CJ Taylor allowed just two runs, but Gentry couldn’t get the offense going in a 2-1 defeat.
First Week of Conference for the Lady Pioneers
The Lady Pioneers were set to play the Pea Ridge Lady Blackhawks at home on March 29. This was the Lady Pioneers first conference game. The Lady Pioneers only had three errors the duration of the game. However, the they struggled to hit the ball; whereas, the Blackhawks didn’t struggle; they were hitting the ball well. Gentry lost to Pea Ridge, 12-0.
Track Competes at Gravette Lion Relays
The junior high and senior high track teams both traveled to Gravette last week for their own meets. The junior high team competed on Tuesday, March 29 and the senior high competed on Thursday, March 31.
Gentry Fights Hard
On Thursday, March 18th the senior high track team headed to Green Forest for a meet. Both boys and girls had and overall pretty good performance.
Gentry Falls to Rogers and Prairie Grove
On Monday night, March 14, the Lady Pioneer varsity soccer team played against the Rogers Mounties. Gentry had to play without six of their starting players out due to various injuries, but this gave the JV players an opportunity to get some more playing experience.
Hit and Run
On Thursday, March 17, the Pioneer baseball team faced the Ozark Hillbillies in Ozark. Sophomore Myles McFerron only allowed one hit, but the Gentry Pioneers still fell to Ozark 6-1 in seven innings.
Goal After Goal
The Gentry Pioneers played their second conference game against the Bergman Panthers Monday, March 27th. The Pioneers came out with a bang and were able to score in the first minute from junior left wing Clay Wills.
Pioneer Soccer: Rough Start for Conference
Heading into spring break, the Pioneers had their first conference game Thursday, March 17th against the Dardanelle Sand Lizards. The Pioneers did not play their best against the Sand Lizards.
Lady Pioneers defeat the Lady Patriots
The Lady Pioneers played at home on Monday, March 28th, against the Providence Lady Patriots. The Pioneers played a good game. Gentry was able to put up 3 runs in the first inning of play and continued scoring from there. The Lady Pioneers held the Lady Patriots to only two runs throughout the game.
Lady Pioneers beat the Lady Elks
The Lady Pioneers traveled to Elkins on Thursday, March 17, to take on the Lady Elks. The Lady Pioneers were able to play a game with no defensive errors. Gentry put up 3 runs in the second inning and held the Lady Elks scoreless until the third.
Strrrrike!
The Pioneers played the Greenland Pirates on Friday, March 11, at home. Three pitchers joined forces to throw a no-hitter for Gentry Pioneer Varsity in a 15-0 victory in five innings over Greenland. Sophomore Myles McFerron, senior Tanner Shipp, and senior CJ Taylor rounded out their sterling stat line with 10 strikeouts and two walks.

Lady Pioneers Continue Softball Season

Pioneers Have Successful Meet
On March 10 the senior high track team headed to Siloam Springs for their first real track meet of the year. After having a great first practice meet, the Pioneers had high hopes about their performances in their first meet.
2016 River Valley Cup
This past weekend, March 11th and 12th, the Lady Pioneer girls’ soccer team competed in their first tournament of the 2016 season. It took place in Greenwood, Arkansas, and consisted of mainly 7A schools.
Their first game was played against the Rogers Mounties at 7:00 p.m. on Friday night; Gentry unfortunately suffered a crushing defeat with a final score of 6-0.
Gentry Scores Its Second Win
On Monday, March 7th, Gentry’s varsity girls’ soccer team played on their home field against the Springdale Lady Bulldogs. Despite predicted storm weather, the rain held off for both the girls’ and boys’ games. Senior Ana Linch assisted fellow senior Haley Borgeteien-James for the first goal of the match. Later on in the first half, sophomore Haley Hays dropped the ball to Linch, who reared back for a left-footed shot outside of the 18-yard box. The final result of the game was a 2-0 win for the Lady Pioneers.
Lady Pioneers Play in Clarksville Tournament
The Lady Pioneers traveled to Clarksville on March 11 and 12 to play in a tournament. The tournament was 7 innings or 60 minutes drop dead. Gentry’s first game was on Friday at 7:00 against Morrilton. The Lady Pioneers were able to play great defense for a majority of the tournament. The Lady Pioneers were playing a good game; however, one inning got away from them. Gentry was on defense and made a few errors that cost them the game. Morrilton won the game, 6-3.
Pioneers Can’t Take Down Bulldogs
The Gentry Pioneer soccer team played against the 7A Springdale Bulldogs Monday night. The Pioneers started off rough letting the Bulldogs score in the first 40 seconds of game. The Pioneers made some common mistakes that allowed the Bulldogs to make that goal. The Pioneers fought hard and had a shot from freshman forward Jason Gomez that went in, but the referees had called offsides.
Tigers Scratch up Pioneers
The Gentry Pioneer soccer team played against the Bentonville Tigers last Friday, March 4. Every second was tough for the Pioneers. It was a game of yellow cards. It started off about 2 minutes into the game when junior center mid Aaron Walker received a yellow card because he forgot to take off his watch. Freshman right wing Nick Linch also received a yellow card midway through the second half for a slide tackle. One of the Tiger players was also carded for talking back to the referee.

Last Friday night, March 4th, the Gentry Lady Pioneer soccer team was dominated by the Bentonville Tigers. The final score resulted in an 8-0 win for the Lady Tigers.
Opening Day
On Thursday, March 3rd the senior high track team went to Pea Ridge for their first practice meet of the year. Being a practice meet, there were no official scores or places held for teams; however, everyone knew how they placed.
Lady Pioneers Play in Prairie Grove JV Festival
The Lady Pioneers traveled to Prairie Grove on Friday and Saturday, March 4-5 to play in a JV Festival. They were scheduled to play at 3:30, 5:00, and 8:00 on Friday. The rules were a bit different for this game. The games were played 70 minutes drop dead, which means that whatever point during the game that the timer went off for 70 minutes, the game would end at that moment.
Lady Pioneers lose to Rogers
The Lady Pioneer Softball players traveled to Rogers on March 3rd to take on the Lady Mounties. The Lady Pioneers were not able to get any runs on the board; however, the Lady Mounties were. The Lady Pioneers got run-ruled at the end of the 5th inning. The ending score was Gentry 0 and the Lady Mounties 10.
Fresh Start to New Season
Gentry Girls Kick Off Season With A Win
On February 29, 2016, the varsity girls’ soccer team of Gentry High School competed in their first game of their season against the junior varsity team of Heritage High School. Newcomer and senior Ana Linch started Gentry off with a quick goal within the first few minutes. She finished the game with an astonishing three goals, otherwise known as a “hat trick,” and an overall great performance.
Teamwork Makes the Dream Work
The Gentry Pioneers kick off their season opener against the Rogers Heritage Eagles Monday night. It was an intensely rough game. With 26 minutes left in the first half, junior left wing Clay Willis crossed the ball to sophomore right wing Kevin Ochoa for the amazing header into the goal. The Pioneers were up 1-0.
Lady Pioneers take on Springdale
The Lady Pioneers traveled to Springdale to play the Lady Bulldogs on February 29. The Lady Pioneers had a rough start, allowing the Bulldogs to score 4 runs in the first inning. The Pioneers were able to play solid defense the rest of the game only letting Springdale score 2 runs for the remaining 6 innings. Gentry improved in an offensive standpoint, but just weren’t able to hit the gaps. The Lady Pioneers weren’t able to pull it off. The Lady Bulldogs of Springdale won the game, 6-0.
Swing Into the Season
The Lady Pioneer Softball team started their season by traveling to Rogers to play in a benefit game against the Rogers Heritage Lady War Eagles. This will be the first game for both teams; it will also be a benefit game.
Practice, Practice, Practice
The soccer team finally has everyone to practice now since the season is in session. The team is looking great during this first week of practice. The Pioneers first game is tonight against the Rogers Heritage War Eagles. This year is an important one for the seniors Austin Fowler and Jared Rabb.
Defending Soccer State Champions Are Excited To Start Season
On February 29, 2016, the Gentry High School varsity and junior varsity soccer teams will kick off their season at Heritage High School. The JV girls will kick off at 4:00, following with the JV boys. Then the varsity girls will begin at 5:30, and the varsity boys will follow at 7:00.
Upcoming Season for Pioneers
The Gentry Pioneer track team is getting ready for their upcoming meets and new season. There is a new record of 75-80 kids on the total Gentry Track team. The teams are doing all sorts of running, conditioning, and practicing that they can do to get ready for their upcoming season. When asked if he was ready for the new season returning Senior Brian Harris responded with, “I am very excited and I’m ready to see what this season has in store for us.”
Pioneer Wrestlers Finish out their Season
It’s Hard To Be Humble When You Can Jump, Stunt, and Tumble
It’s that time of year again…the Gentry Senior High Cheer tryouts are just around the corner. There hasn’t been a set date yet, but they will for sure be in March, and hopefully before spring break. Now is the time for those who are trying out to start working on jumps, motions, and tumbling. Tumbling has become a big part of cheer and competition; therefore, tumbling is a huge part of cheerleading and is implemented weekly in practices.
Leave no Pins Standing at State
The Gentry Pioneers boys’ and girls’ bowling teams left for Conway, Arkansas, Tuesday night to bowl in the 4A-5A State Finals. Gentry was bowling against 14 other schools in Arkansas. Each team that made it to State were the top 5 in their conferences. Gentry boys and girls were 3rd in their conference.
Final Game for the Pioneers
The Pioneers played their last game of the year against the Shiloh Christian Saints in the second round of the district tournament. If the Pioneers won this game, they could have continued their season in the district tournament and regionals.
Lady Pioneers Conclude their Season
The Lady Pioneers traveled to Prairie Grove on February 17 to play in the District Tournament. They faced the Lady Lions of Gravette for the third time this season. The Lady Pioneers had just lost to the Lady Lions on the 12th, so Gentry came ready to play. Sadly for the Pioneers, their top scorer of the season, Haley James, was not able to play this game because of a previous concussion, so the pressure was on for the rest of the team.
The End Game
On February 8, the junior high Lady Pioneers played their final game against the Lincoln Wolves. The girls fought hard during their last game but came up short. The leading scorers were Meledy Owens (8) and Madison Ward (9). Unfortunately, the Lady Pioneers lost to the Lady Wolves by 20 points, 50-30.
JH Basketball Almost but Not Enough
The junior high basketball team entered the district tournament as the 8th seed playing against the 1st seeded Pea Ridge Blackhawks. The last time these two team met the Pioneers lost 36-29. They were not able to finish the game when they were up by 10 going into halftime. The Pioneers hoped for a different outcome this time around.
The Bowling Teams Take 3rd in Conference
Last Thursday the girls’ and boys’ bowling teams went to conference in Fort Smith. They bowled a total of three games and came up with impressingly high scores. Both of the girls and boys ended up in third place. The girls bowled a total score of 2296 and the boys bowled a total score of 2944.
Pioneers Roll Past the Lions
The Gentry Pioneers played their last home game for the year and the last home game forever for the seniors last Friday night. The Pioneers hosted the Gravette Lions for their last game of the regular season. Unfortunately, senior Jake Faulkenberry missed his last home game due to a sickness.
Senior Night against the Lady Lions
The Lady Pioneers played the Gravette Lady Lions on February 12th for senior night. The game was a close one. The Lions had the lead for the duration of the first quarter, ending the quarter 12-8. Gentry was able to get a lead by the end of the second quarter, but only leading by two, ending the first half 26-24.
Lady Pioneers beat Lady Wolves
The Lady Pioneers played the Lincoln Lady Wolves at home on February the ninth. The Lady Pioneers played a good game. The first half started out rough, but the Lady Pioneers never gave up. By the end of the first half the Lady Pioneers were up by 5, leading the Wolves 20-15. Gentry came out of halftime ready to win the game. The Lady Pioneers were able to push their lead even further and played a much better second half. The were able to give multiple people scoring opportunities. Gentry got the win over Lincoln, finishing the game at 48-24.
Pioneers Battle With Tigers
Next up for the Pioneers was the team from Prairie Grove. The previous meeting between the two teams resulted in a 21 point win for the Pioneers.
Gentry Takes on Siloam
The boys’ and girls’ bowling teams challenged Siloam at home last Thursday, February 4th.
The girls total score was 750. The top three scorers on Thursday were seniors Carol Williams, Rebecca Martin, and Sabra Philpott. Williams bowled a high score of 178, Martin bowled a 139, and Philpott bowled a 121.
Take the Lions to the Resting Home
This Friday, February 12, is senior night as well as the last home basketball game against the Gravette Lions.
On Friday, the pep rally will start at the beginning of 7th hour and will be held in the gym. The pep rally will probably run into 8th hour. The senior night festivities will start at 5:45 p.m. that Friday night, so seniors are expected to be there early.

JH Lady Pioneers Fall to the Saints and Eagles
The junior high Lady Pioneers played against the Huntsville Lady Eagles on January 28, 2016. The leading shooter for the Lady Pioneers was freshman Jaydon Jarnagan. The Lady Pioneers played well but lost to the Lady Eagles 42-26.
JH Pioneers Can’t Finish Against Tigers
February 4, 2016, the junior high Gentry Pioneers faced off against the Prairie Grove Tigers. Both team fought hard until the the end of the of the fourth quarter. The Pioneers were tied with the Tigers with 3:23 left in the fourth 21-21. The Pioneers scored, making it 23-21 with only seconds remaining. The Tigers were able to hit a clutch shot to send it into overtime. With 1:18 left in overtime, the Pioneers were up 29-28 and were able to get another point from the line making it 30-28.The Tigers were able to hit another clutch 3-point shot to take the lead 31-30 with 19.4 seconds remaining.

JH: Pioneers Win It All Against Saints
The junior high Pioneers traveled to Springdale to play against the Shiloh Saints on February 1, 2016. It was an intense rough battle between the two teams. The Pioneers were up going into the second quarter 11-8 and the leading scorer of the quarter for the Pioneers was freshman forward, Dylan Kilgore with 5 points. Heading into the locker rooms, the Pioneers were able to keep the lead, the score was 19-15. The Pioneers were 6 out of 14 shots in the first half. The second half started and the Pioneers hit 7 out of 17 shots that made them win the game.

Last Friday the Pioneers faced the Huntsville Eagles on road for their second contest. The previous meeting of the two teams resulted in a 62-55 loss for the Pioneers.
The Pioneers headed to Huntsville to play the Eagles on their Color’s Night, what we call Coronation. The boys started out slow getting down by as much as 12 at one point. The Pioneers fought back the whole game, but they couldn’t pull the win out losing 52-51.

The Pioneers were unable to connect for the win against the Huntsville Eagles on last Thursday night’s game.
“I feel like we just did not play our hardest and were unable to hit the important shots,” said 8th grade forward Casey Bates after the loss.

Pioneers Get the Pin
The Pioneers took on the Berryville Bobcats and the Shiloh Saints in a double dual on January 26, 2016. Against Shiloh, sophomores JT Crosby and Matthew Nance got pins against their opponents, as well as freshman Garrett Hays. Crosby and Nance also got pins against the Bobcats.

Pioneers Have Shootout with Bobcats
The Pioneers faced the Berryville Bobcats for the second time. In the previous meeting between the two teams, the Pioneers came out on top winning 58-56.
Shootin’ Hoops
The senior high Lady Pioneers traveled to Berryville on the 26th to take on the Lady Bobcats. The Bobcats got an early lead on the Lady Pioneers being up 14-9 at the end of the first quarter. Gentry only let Berryville increase their lead by the end of the half. The score was 29-17 at the end of the second quarter. The Lady Pioneers fought hard to try and gain the lead, but weren’t able to accomplish the goal.
Pioneers take on the Blackhawks
The Pioneers restarted conference play with a game against the number one team, the Pea Ridge Blackhawks. The previous meeting for these two teams ended with Gentry on top by ten. “We played well and shot the ball great against them our first game. We just didn’t hit all the shots that we needed to the second time around,” said junior Evan Folker. The Blackhawks were out for revenge knowing it wouldn’t be easy. The Blackhawks got what they needed to claim first place in the conference.
JH Pioneers Fall Short to Blackhawks
The Gentry Junior High Pioneers fell short to the Pea Ridge Blackhawks on January 22, 2016. The JH Pioneers lost 36-29. The Pioneers were up by 10 points going into half time and couldn’t finish the game. The leading scorer for the Pioneers was freshman forward Dylan Kilgore, who had 15 points.
Pioneers Take on Har-Ber
On Thursday, January 21, 2016, the Pioneer wrestlers took on the Har-Ber Wildcats in a single dual. The Pioneers had eight wins but still fell short to the Wildcats 36-24 points. Gentry lacked boys for two weight classes; therefore, they lost the points for those two matches. The Pioneers were missing some due to sickness.
The Battle of the Baskets
On January 11, 2016, the junior high Lady Pioneers went against the Prairie Grove Lady Tigers. The leading shooters were eighth graders Ahrya Reding, Ariel Nix, and Madison Stanfill. The Lady Pioneers lost 29-14. “As a team I think we didn’t work together as well as we needed to. We learned that next time we need to work more as a team so we can execute offenses,” freshman Jaydon Jarnagan said.
Looking Ahead to Softball Season 2016
The Lady Pioneers softball team has its first game on February 25, 2016. That game is a little over a month away but team members are working hard to beat Rogers Heritage High School in their season opener.

The Senior High Lady Pioneers traveled to Pea Ridge on the 22nd to play the Lady Blackhawks. Gentry started off the game strong, getting an early lead. The Lady Pioneers ended the first quarter up by eleven points. They kept their lead and ended the half still ahead by eleven, leaving the score 22-11 as they headed to the locker room.
Nothin’ but Net
The Lady Pioneers traveled to Gravette on January 19 to play the Lady Lions. Gentry came to play; they had to when taking on their rivals. The Lady Pioneers had a strong lead by the end of the first half. Gentry was up by 10, leaving the score 23-13 as they headed into the third quarter.
Take it to the Mats
On January 19, 2016, the Gentry Pioneer Wrestlers took on the Har-Ber Wildcats and the Springdale Bulldogs in their dual meet. The Berryville Bobcats were supposed to be there with their wrestling team, but could not make it because of the possibility of bad road conditions.
Junior High Basketball: Gentry vs Gravette
The Junior High Gentry Pioneers basketball team played against the Gravette Lions on Tuesday, January 19. It was a hard-fought game for the Pioneers. The Pioneers came up short against the Lions losing 36-31. The leading scorers of the game for the Pioneers were freshman forward, Dylan Kilgore, with 7 points and freshman guard, Christian Waddell, also with 7 points.
New Year for the Pioneers
For the first game back after the Christmas break, the Pioneers played the Huntsville Eagles. The Pioneers were ready for the Eagles coming off on 0-2 series from previous meetings from the year before. The Pioneers had the lead all through the first and second quarters.

Swinging into a New Season
Although it isn’t baseball season yet, the team is preparing for a successful season. The players have been working as they begin the process of placing players into the positions that will benefit the team as a whole.
Around the Rim
The Prairie Grove Tigers traveled to Gentry on January 11th to take on the senior high Lady Pioneers. It was a hard fought game until the end. By the end of the half, the Lady Pioneers were trailing by 6, leaving the score 21-15 as they headed to the locker room. Gentry came out of halftime ready to play and got the score back up only trailing by two at the end of the third. The Pioneers kept the tempo and fought hard to try and win the game. Sadly, Gentry fell short in the last seconds of the game, losing to the Lady Tigers 46-44.

the Pioneers and Lady Pioneers picked up non-conference victories on Nov. 24 when the Decatur Bulldogs visited the Gentry High School gym to take on their southern rivals.
