Lady Pioneers Play in Prairie Grove JV Festival
The Lady Pioneers traveled to Prairie Grove on Friday and Saturday, March 4-5 to play in a JV Festival. They were scheduled to play at 3:30, 5:00, and 8:00 on Friday. The rules were a bit different for this game. The games were played 70 minutes drop dead, which means that whatever point during the game that the timer went off for 70 minutes, the game would end at that moment.
The Lady Pioneers first game on Friday was at 3:30 and was against the Lincoln Lady Wolves. Gentry did not hit as well as they wanted to. It was overall a good game. However, the Lincoln Lady Wolves won the game, 7-4.
The second game for the Lady Pioneers was against the Farmington Lady Cardinals at 5:00. This was a hard fought game from both teams. The Lady Pioneers were able to compete with the Lady Cardinals for most of the game. However, at a crucial point in the game when the time was about to expire, Farmington was able to get a home run. This home run for the Cardinals allowed 3 runs to be added to their score. Sadly, the Lady Pioneers lost the game in the last minutes. Farmington won over Gentry, 4-1.
The third game that the Lady Pioneers played on Friday was against the Lady Tigers of the Prairie Grove Gold team. The Tigers were able to hit in the gaps against the Pioneers and scored more runs. Prairie Grove won the game, 11-4.
The Lady Pioneers were scheduled to play two games on Saturday at 6:00 and 7:30. Their first game of the day was against the Farmington Cardinals. The Lady Pioneers weren’t able to hit very well and made a few errors that cost them. Farmington won, 6-1.
The last game of the tournament the Lady Pioneers took on the Ozark Lady Hillbillies. The Lady Pioneers played a good game against the Lady Hillbillies. Gentry hit the ball pretty well, but Ozark did as well. However, the Lady Pioneers were able to hold the Hillbillies to 1 run the duration of the first three innings. Gentry was able to run in a point at the bottom of the third after Taylor Hull hit the ball deep between right and center field. The score was 1-1, Ozark, at the bottom of the third. In the last inning of the game Gentry was not able to keep the Lady Hillbillies from scoring. The ball game ended at the top of forth when time expired. The score was 4-1, Ozark winning the game.
Harley Stanfield said this about the rest of the season, “We are a good team that has the skills, but like any other team, we have things that we need to work on.”
The Lady Pioneers had a game scheduled for Tuesday the 8 against the Har-Ber Wildcats; unfortunately, it got rained out. Gentry also has a home game scheduled for Thursday the 10 against the Fayetteville Bulldogs, weather permitting.
