Gentry played again on Thursday, March 31, in Berryville against the Lady Bobcats. The Lady Pioneers were able to get runners in scoring position every inning of the seven inning game, but weren’t able to score the runs. Gentry had a few too many errors in the field and allowed the Lady Bobcats to score. The Lady Pioneers lost 7-2 against the Lady Bobcats.
Coach Nations said this about the game, ”Our ladies had one bad inning, allowing 5 runs that they couldn’t come back from and left the final score 7-2. It was a tight game through 5 innings.”
The Lady Pioneers played at home on Friday, April 1, against the Clarksville Lady Panthers. Both Gentry and Clarksville had a good game on Friday. They were head-to-head throughout 7 innings and were tied at the bottom of the seventh, 6-6. In the top of the 8th, Clarksville was able to put three runs on the board to take the lead 9-6. Gentry put one run on the board to make it 9-7. With 2 outs and 2 runners on base at the bottom of the eighth, senior Sabra Philpott hit a shot to right center to tie the game 9-9; this sent the game into the 9th inning. Gentry shut down the Lady Panthers in the top of the 9th. In the bottom of the 9th, bases were loaded when junior Brooke Boston hit a line drive to center field for the walk-off RBI single. Gentry beat Clarksville 10-9 at the bottom of the ninth.
Assistant coach Erica Jones said this about the game, “I just have to take a minute to say how proud I am of our softball girls. The Lady Pioneers played a heck of a game, beating the Clarksville Lady Panthers 10-9 in 9 innings. We had some awesome plays on defense, hit the ball very well and our pitcher hung in there for all 9 innings and pitched a great game. It was an overall great game and my favorite thing about it was that the girls never gave up and played as a team the whole time! I hope that we can take this momentum into conference play next week, because these girls are capable of doing great things! I’m very excited for the rest of the season. Great job, ladies!”
The Lady Pioneers will play at home on Wednesday, April 4, at home against the Jasper Lady Pirates at 5:00. Come support the Lady Pioneers!
