2016 River Valley Cup
This past weekend, March 11th and 12th, the Lady Pioneer girls’ soccer team competed in their first tournament of the 2016 season. It took place in Greenwood, Arkansas, and consisted of mainly 7A schools.
Their first game was played against the Rogers Mounties at 7:00 p.m. on Friday night; Gentry unfortunately suffered a crushing defeat with a final score of 6-0.
The following game was played at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday against the tournament host, the Greenwood Lady Bulldogs. However, the Lady Pioneers suffered yet another loss with a final score of 2-0.
After enjoying a tasty lunch at Mazzio’s, Gentry played in their final game of the weekend against the Van Buren Lady Pointers. Many of Gentry’s JV players played in this match due to multiple injuries on the varsity team. The Pointers pulled through with a win over Gentry with a final score of 3-0.
Head Coach Fabrizio Campagnola explains, “The tournament was a great learning experience for us, we had to face opponents that are above our league, but I believe that experience like this makes the team better and stronger.”
Even though the Pioneers suffered on the scoreboard in the River Valley Cup, this humbling experience will hopefully better prepare the team for the upcoming 4A conference games.
