Lady Pioneers Beat the Lady Elks
The Lady Pioneers traveled to Elkins on Thursday, March 17, to take on the Lady Elks. The Lady Pioneers were able to play a game with no defensive errors. Gentry put up 3 runs in the second inning and held the Lady Elks scoreless until the third. At the bottom of the sixth the score was tied 3-3. Sophomore Lynzey Sikes got a walk at the top of the 7th and a pass ball on the next batter allowed her to advance to 2nd base. The Lady Elks had two outs and junior Taylor Hull was up to bat. Hull hit a line drive to left center to score Sikes from 2nd base, allowing the Lady Pioneers to take the lead, 4-3. Elkins was up to bat; they had runners on 1st and 3rd with 2 outs. Sophomore Alyssa Kelton threw one pitch and the runner on first stole 2nd base. Hull, the catcher, connected with junior Brooke Boston, shortstop, for the 3rd out and that was the game. The Lady Pioneers got their first win, 4-3.
Assistant Coach Erica Jones said this about the game, “I’m very proud of the way the girls played tonight against the Elkins Lady Elks. The girls did great with no defensive errors and were hitting the ball well. If we keep improving with every game, we will have a successful season.”
The Lady Pioneers will play the Providence Lady Patriots on Monday, March 28th, in Gentry. Come support the Lady Pioneers!
