JH Basketball: Almost but Not Enough
The junior high basketball team entered the district tournament as the 8th seed playing against the 1st seeded Pea Ridge Blackhawks. The last time these two team met the Pioneers lost 36-29. They were not able to finish the game when they were up by 10 going into halftime. The Pioneers hoped for a different outcome this time around.
This game started off great for the Pioneers who were up 11-3 in the first quarter. The Pioneers couldn’t get things going and missed a couple of layups and free throw. The game ended with the Blackhawks winning 33-25.
The leading scorers for the Pioneers were freshman forward Dylan Kilgore with 15 points and his fellow freshman guard Trevor Dowdy with 5 points.
“I was glad to play with a bunch of fun guys this season and I am looking forward for high school basketball next year,” said Dowdy.
The Pioneers ended their season with 4 wins and 13 losses; not a great season but the team did see improvements throughout the year. There will be a lot of players moving up to high school basketball next year. As far as the junior high team for next year, they will be putting in a lot of hard work over the summer for next season.
