Gentry Falls to Rogers and Prairie Grove
On Monday night, March 14, the Lady Pioneer varsity soccer team played against the Rogers Mounties. Gentry had to play without six of their starting players out due to various injuries, but this gave the JV players an opportunity to get some more playing experience.
Senior Ana Linch had the only goal for Gentry on a penalty kick in the second half, but the final score was 6-1, a loss for Gentry.
The Lady Pioneer JV team traveled to Prairie Grove on Tuesday night and also suffered a loss. Although Gentry was ahead 2-1 at halftime, the Tigers made a mighty comeback to win the game with a final score of 3-2.
Gentry newcomer freshman Lily Navarrete and junior Karina Appelrath scored their first goals of the season during this game. While Appelrath scored off of a corner kick, Navarrete scored off of a penalty kick.
Despite the end result, Navarrete stated, “I think we did really well and I’m excited for the rest of the season!”
Their next game was moved to tonight, March 17, due to the high school’s CAP conferences the following day. Gentry will be leaving at 1:30 to begin their two and half hour drive to Dardanelle High School’s home stadium. The Lady Pioneers and Sand Lizards plan to kick off at 5:00 p.m., followed by the boys game at 7:00 p.m.
