Pioneer Boys Run Conference
The junior high Pioneers had their conference championship last Thursday in Gravette. The Pioneer track teams are well known for all of their district championships. The junior high team finished with the runner-up trophy this year.
Freshman Adrian Ramirez won conference in the pole vault with a jump of 11’6”. Freshman Bret Jackson broke the junior high record in the triple jump with a jump of 38’5”. Ramirez said, “I was very happy with how I jumped and I hope I can qualify for state next week.”
Eighth grader Jaiden Wilmoth finished in 2nd place in the pole vault, 2nd in the mile, second in the 800, third in the triple jump and third in the 4×4. Eighth grader Megan McCollum also placed very well in the pole vault.
The senior high Pioneers headed to Gravette for their district championship on Tuesday, April 26. The boys were needing a win to secure their 4th district championship in 5 years. The Pioneers ran away with it, winning 164 to 126.
The Pioneers had a lot of people qualify for state. The 4×8 team consisting of freshman Nick Lynch, sophomore Jarod Lawrence, junior Aaron Walker and sophomore Harvey Davis went out, qualified for state, and beat the school record by 12 seconds. Senior Bryan Harris was awarded high point and a ride to state for his last track meet. Junior Cole Cripps won the pole vault and set the school record in the triple jump with a distance of 41’ 9 ¼”. Freshman Bret Jackson moved up for pole vault and won second place and also got a ride to state.
Jackson responded saying, “I am very excited about this, and I think it’s going to be a great experience.”
