Take it to the Mats
On January 19, 2016, the Gentry Pioneer Wrestlers took on the Har-Ber Wildcats and the Springdale Bulldogs in their dual meet. The Berryville Bobcats were supposed to be there with their wrestling team, but could not make it because of the possibility of bad road conditions.
Against Springdale, Gentry had one victory by freshman Zach Palmer. He beat Jacob Neal with the pin and an overall record of 2 and 0. The final score was Har-Ber 36 and Gentry 30, and against Springdale the Pioneers came out with 6 while the Bulldogs had 63.
“Our wrestlers worked hard during the matches against Springdale and Har-Ber. We could have done better in the matches against Springdale. We have things to work on as wrestlers but we’re getting there,” said Palmer.
Against the Wildcats, the Pioneers had two victories from senior Petter Thao and sophomore J.T. Crosby.
When asked about the meet, Coach Henderson said, “I think we started off the night really well. Zach Palmer had his best night with two big wins and Petter Thao put up one heck of a fight in his second match. Our most improved wrestler so far has been freshman Garrett Hays and he put up a great fight in both of his matches. We need to work on getting more mentally tough in the close matches. That all comes with time and a culture change. The second dual against Springdale was more of a struggle, but by the state tournament we should be in a better spot as a team.”
