Final Game for the Pioneers
The Pioneers played their last game of the year against the Shiloh Christian Saints in the second round of the district tournament. If the Pioneers won this game, they could have continued their season in the district tournament and regionals.
The Pioneers were in the game the whole time and even winning at certain points. The Pioneers played their hearts out, but in the end it still wasn’t enough to give the Pioneers a “W.” The game was constantly varying for both teams; several players fouled out and even 3 of Gentry’s starting 5 had four fouls with 4 minutes left to play. Senior CJ Taylor was the leading scorer for the Pioneers with 19 points on the night.
After the game senior post Austin Thompson said “I’m gonna miss this team more than they will ever know.”
When asked about how the game went Senior Jake Faulkenberry responded with, “I think we played very hard, and I thought we were going to be able to win it.”
It was a very emotional night for both Pioneer teams, losing and ending their seasons. The senior boys finished their basketball season with a winning 14-11 record. This is the best season the Pioneers have had in 11 years, back to Tyler McReynolds, Brent Still, Justin Smith, James Fosche, and Dorian Hendrix in the 2004-2005 basketball season. The team will take a break and start off-season practices the week after spring break.
