Lady Pioneers Conclude their Season
The Lady Pioneers traveled to Prairie Grove on February 17 to play in the District Tournament. They faced the Lady Lions of Gravette for the third time this season. The Lady Pioneers had just lost to the Lady Lions on the 12th, so Gentry came ready to play. Sadly for the Pioneers, their top scorer of the season, Haley James, was not able to play this game because of a previous concussion, so the pressure was on for the rest of the team.
Gravette got the early lead; the Lady Pioneers trailed 8-5 at the end of the first quarter. The Lady Lions were able to keep the lead for the duration of the game. The Lady Lions pushed their lead by the end of the first half, and had the the Lady Pioneers trailing 23-10.
Gentry kept fighting to get points, but the Lady Pioneers were just not able to get the points they needed to win the game. Gentry concluded their season after losing the first game in the District Tournament, 53-39.
Senior Mallory Morris posted the following on Facebook about her last high school basketball game: “You never really think it’ll end until it does, but I couldn’t be more proud to be a Lady Pioneers. The outcome of tonight was tough, but God has blessed us so much. The family our team is and the love I have for you all couldn’t be stronger. I hope that as you youngins continue in your basketball careers that you wouldn’t take a moment for granted and that you’d give all the glory to the One who gave you your abilities. My fellow seniors-I couldn’t ask for a better group of people to grow up with. Please don’t become strangers. I love you guys with all of my heart.”
