Opening Day
On Thursday, March 3rd the senior high track team went to Pea Ridge for their first practice meet of the year. Being a practice meet, there were no official scores or places held for teams; however, everyone knew how they placed.
For the Pioneers Bryan Harris finished first in the 200, 100, and the high jump; he also finished second in the triple jump and his 4×1 team, consisting of him, Cole Cripps, Jake Faulkenberry, and David Bauman, finished first. When I asked Harris how he felt about his performance he responded with, “I was very pleased with what I did, but I was even more pleased with what my team did.”
Cole Cripps finished first in the triple jump and third in high jump. Doo Faulkenberry finished 3rd in the triple jump and merked people like his brother in the discus.
The girls also had a heck of day. Kya Dezurik, Lauren Fowler, Xitlali Estrada, and Hannah Bennett all participated in the pole vault, all doing very well. Senior Mallory Morris also had her mark on the meet winning the 800, mile and a handful of other events. Kya DeZurik had this to say about the meet, “It was a fun season opener and I hope by the time state comes I can put another ring on my finger.”
The senior high team will head to Siloam Springs for their first real meet on Thursday, March 10th.
