At Gentry Public Schools, we believe that great instruction isn't about choosing between traditional teaching methods and technology. It's about finding the right balance between the two!
Through our Balanced Instructional Model, we are intentionally bringing back more traditional classroom experiences that emphasize direct teacher instruction, hands-on learning, meaningful conversations, collaboration, and the use of physical learning materials. While technology remains an important part of education, we believe it should be used purposefully to enhance instruction—not replace the valuable learning experiences that happen when students interact directly with their teachers, classmates, and learning materials.

🖍️ Pre-K: Our youngest learners are getting hands-on with shaving cream as they practice forming letters of the alphabet! This fun, sensory-rich activity helps students develop letter recognition, fine motor skills, and early writing skills.
🔤 First Grade: Students are using magnetic letters to build words with the digraphs "wh" and "sh" while exploring how adding the suffix "s" changes words. By physically moving and manipulating letters, students are strengthening their understanding of sounds, spelling patterns, and word formation.
📖 Second Grade: Students are practicing partner reading and using hand motions to break words into syllables. These traditional, interactive strategies encourage students to read aloud, listen, communicate, and actively participate in developing their literacy skills.
These are the kinds of meaningful classroom experiences we want to see every day!
Our goal is not to eliminate technology from classrooms. Technology continues to play an important role in helping students develop digital skills, access valuable learning resources, and engage in educational experiences that support their growth. However, we believe technology should be a tool for instruction, not the foundation of every lesson.
By returning to a stronger balance of teacher-led lessons, textbooks, paper-and-pencil activities, hands-on learning, student collaboration, and purposeful technology integration, we are creating classrooms where instructional decisions are driven by what students need to learn—not simply by the technology available.

What a night celebrating our volleyball seniors! With still more of the season to play, we were able to say goodbye to our senior Lady Pioneers during a special event on Thursday.
The six seniors honored during Senior Night were:
Anna Xiong (#1) — Libero
Lexi Hughes (#4) — Defensive Specialist
Peyton Insco (#14) — Libero/Defensive Specialist
Delilah Chamra (#20) — Middle Blocker
Temperance Goodhue (#23) — Middle Blocker
Alyssa Montoya (#25) — Outside Hitter
The Lady Pioneers have given the program plenty to celebrate this season, including the first 10-win season in program history and the best start the program has ever recorded. The junior varsity team also established a program record for wins in a season.
Individual accomplishments have added to the team’s success. Alli Jones earned a place among the top five in the Arkansas state record book for aces in a single match. Xiong has led the 4A Conference in digs, while Kylie Smith has ranked among the conference’s top two players in kills per set.

INTRODUCING THE PIONEER PANTRY! 🛒
We’re excited to announce the grand opening of the Pioneer Pantry, a new district-wide resource created to support students and families across all Gentry schools.
The Pioneer Pantry is a market-style pantry — think grocery store aisles — where families can walk through and shop for the items they need. Each month, the selection will vary and may include:
🥦 Fresh fruits and vegetables
🍗 Frozen protein
🍞 Breads and bakery items
🥫 Shelf-stable pantry items
🧂 Essential spices and condiments
One important thing to know: Your participation matters! Our funding through the Northwest Arkansas Food Bank is tied directly to community participation. The more families who visit and use the pantry, the more grant funding we receive to keep the shelves stocked and help the program grow.
MORE REASON TO COME SUPPORT THE PANTRY? The Pantry will be done a prize raffle drawing for a freezer, shopping tote, and some kitchen accessories. You won't want to miss it!
Whether your family needs a few items for the week or additional support, stopping by helps keep this resource available and thriving for our entire district.

Wednesday mornings at the Benton County Fair have become a special Gentry FFA tradition.
Every year, our FFA students cook breakfast for the exhibitors — a small way of celebrating the countless hours that 4-H and FFA members and their families put in long before they ever step into the show ring.
A lot of work goes into raising, caring for and preparing these animals for competition. We’re proud that our students take time to celebrate the hard work of others, too.
A HUGE thank-you to Grand Savings Bank for continuing to partner with Gentry FFA and helping make this breakfast tradition possible every year.
Community partnerships like this one matter. They give our students opportunities, support programs that teach real-world skills and help make experiences like the Benton County Fair even more meaningful.

The ribbons and championships are exciting, but the work ethic, responsibility, confidence and commitment these students are developing along the way are what make this program so special.

It’s almost time for one of the biggest weeks on the Gentry calendar! From dress-up days to the parade, pep rally, crowning and Friday night’s big game, there’s a lot happening as we celebrate Pioneers Through the Years!

➡️ Right into the Primary School main drive, where the parade will end

It’s almost time for one of the biggest weeks on the Gentry calendar! From dress-up days to the parade, pep rally, crowning and Friday night’s big game, there’s a lot happening as we celebrate Pioneers Through the Years!
Here’s what you need to know:
👕 HOMECOMING DRESS-UP DAYS
Monday — Mellow Monday
Hippie wear, tie-dye or PJs
Tuesday — Army vs. Barbie
Wear pink or camo!
Wednesday — Color Our World
High School:
9th Grade -- Neon Green
10th Grade -- Teal
11th Grade -- Purple
12th Grade -- Neon Pink
Wear your class color! Younger students -- be sure to check with your child’s teacher if you aren’t sure which color represents their class.
Thursday — Throwback Thursday
Dress in your favorite decade!
Friday — Pioneer Spirit Through the Years ❤️🤍
Break out your Maroon & White and show your Pioneer pride!

Before we get to Friday, be sure to come out Thursday night and help us celebrate our Lady Pioneer Volleyball seniors as they are recognized on Senior Night! More details will be shared by Gentry Athletics.
🎊 FRIDAY — HOMECOMING DAY
📣 Pep Rally — 10:35 a.m.
The first high school lunch will follow the pep rally.
🎈 Homecoming Parade — 1 p.m.
The parade will follow the same route used the past two years:
➡️ West on Main Street from Railroad Avenue
➡️ Left onto Collins Avenue
➡️ Right onto 2nd Avenue
➡️ Left onto Smith Avenue
➡️ Right onto Highway 12
➡️ Left onto Pioneer Lane
➡️ Right into the Primary School main drive, where the parade will end
👑 Homecoming Field Ceremony & Crowning — approximately 6:20 p.m.
Then it’s time for Friday Night Lights at 7 p.m. vs. Green Forest!
💃 HOMECOMING DANCE
📍 GHS Cafeteria
🕘 9 p.m. to Midnight — immediately following the football game

🎄🎁 A day of fun, teamwork and giving back!
Last week, Gentry Middle School Principal Dr. Elizabeth Wieneke and Registrar Alisha Key joined eighth-grade students Izabella Hammond and Zoe Alas as they represented Gentry at the annual Ambassador Games, hosted by the Adelaide Schaeffer Foundation.
Founded in 2004 by Adelaide Schaeffer, her husband and close friends, the foundation works year-round to gather sponsorships and donations from generous community partners such as Simmons, Tyson, Walmart and Sam’s Club. Those donations are then shared with teachers, students and school staff throughout the year, with a special focus during the Christmas season.
At the Ambassador Games, Gentry joined schools from across the area for a day filled with festive competitions, including Blizzard Volleyball, Musical Chairs, Tree Decorating Contests and more, all while earning points for the Yellow Team — the Walmart Home Team!
Most importantly, our students and staff represented Gentry with enthusiasm, teamwork and Pioneer spirit. They made plenty of noise, had a lot of fun and brought home memories to last long after the games ended!
We also appreciate Champions for Kids, who visited Gentry Middle School last Friday to share with our sixth-grade students how they can become involved through reading challenges and other opportunities to earn prizes and rewards while building a love of learning.
Thank you to the Adelaide Schaeffer Foundation, Champions for Kids and the many businesses and volunteers who make these opportunities possible for students across Northwest Arkansas.

Sophomore Josie Womack ran her way to a 13th-place overall finish at yesterday’s Huntsville Invitational , and she did it while setting a new personal record!
It was a very hilly course, but our Pioneers battled from start to finish. Ellie Nix also set a new PR, while Eili Reyes finished in the Top 20. Several other runners recorded season-best times and continue to get closer to new personal records every day.
The hard work is showing, and we’re proud of the progress this team is making!

The Pioneers will be back in action Saturday at the 38th Annual Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival in Fayetteville. Held at the University of Arkansas cross-country course, Chile Pepper has grown into one of the largest cross-country festivals in the nation, typically bringing together approximately 6,500 runners and more than 7,000 spectators from across the region and beyond.
It’s a big stage and a great opportunity for our runners to test themselves against some of the best competition around.

🧠❤️🤍Gentry Quiz Bowl Opens Second Season of Competition
The Gentry Quiz Bowl program officially got its second year back underway this past weekend as both the senior high and junior high teams competed at the Cyclone Invitational in Russellville.
For a program that returned to Gentry High School last year after more than a decade away, this season represents another important step in building something that students can continue to grow into for years to come.
The teams have been working hard in preparation for a full season of competition, sharpening their knowledge, learning to work together under pressure and gaining the experience that comes with competing against strong programs from around the state.
And that preparation matters.
Quiz Bowl is much more than simply knowing the answer to a difficult question. Students compete across a broad range of subjects, including literature, history, science, mathematics, fine arts and current events. Teams must listen carefully, recognize information quickly and communicate effectively, often making decisions in a matter of seconds.
It also teaches something that doesn't always show up on a report card: how to think under pressure and work as a team.
Last season, Gentry's returning program made an immediate impact, advancing to the 4A State Quiz Bowl Tournament after finishing second at the regional tournament. That success provided a foundation for the program, and this year's teams are building on it.
With both senior high and junior high teams now competing, Gentry is developing a program that can introduce students to Quiz Bowl earlier and give them more opportunities to grow their skills over time.
We're proud of the work these students are putting in and excited to watch this program continue to develop throughout the season.

Friday night was a pretty special night at Gentry High School as we welcomed members of the Gentry High School Class of 1976 back home for their 50th class reunion!
Yes… 50 YEARS!
We were so excited to have this group back on campus and had a great time showing them around Gentry High School and the Pioneer Athletic Complex. They even got a behind-the-scenes look at our football team getting ready for game night!
Think about that for a minute — 50 years ago, these Pioneers were walking the halls of Gentry High School. Friday night, they were back in those halls, catching up with old friends, seeing how much things have changed and taking in a little Pioneer football.
That’s what makes nights like this so special. Our schools are about more than buildings and ballgames. They’re about the people who walked these halls, made memories here and helped shape the story of Gentry.
We were honored and excited to host the Class of 1976 and celebrate this incredible milestone with them.
Once a Pioneer, Always a Pioneer. ❤️🖤
