Why Attendance Matters

Regular attendance is vital for student learning, growth, and success. Being in class helps students build essential skills, benefit from teacher guidance, and connect with peers. In addition to supporting learning, attendance plays a key role in how schools are funded. When students attend regularly, it ensures resources stay strong for all.

Our district follows state law regarding attendance, including how excessive absences are handled. The rules and consequences are not unique to Gentry—they reflect statewide requirements that all public schools must follow. While we always strive to support students and families, these policies are part of ensuring compliance with Arkansas law. See below for the Attendance FAQ and official policy guidance.

These guidelines outline our general attendance practices and expectations. While the FAQ below highlights the most common topics and questions, the official attendance policy in the Parent Student Handbook governs if any conflict arises. We've also broken the policies out below for easier reference.
