Today is Harriet Tubman Day. Harriet Tubman Day is a celebration of courage and freedom. It honors Harriet Tubman’s relentless fight for the freedom of enslaved people. Her bravery and strategic skills helped many escape through the Underground Railroad. She didn’t just seek her freedom; she dedicated her life to helping others secure theirs, embodying the true spirit of a hero.

Hello Gentry families, As outlined in the original 2024-2025 calendar and confirmed by the survey results, makeup days will be held May 27-30 and June 2-3, 2025, with the 6th missed day being made up on June 3. Attendance will count on these days, and instruction will take place, so it’s important for students to attend and participate. The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) provided two options for makeup days, which were put to a survey. With five makeup days already built into the calendar, adding one more for the 6th missed day isn’t a significant change and should cause minimal disruption. Given the time of year, we want to keep changes minimal to avoid disrupting those who have planned based on the existing calendar. While this calendar was confirmed last year, we will review next year’s to see if we can provide better options. Thank you for your understanding and for raising these important questions. I’m committed to keeping everyone informed and addressing your concerns as best as I can.

We are excited to welcome Dwana Haro to Gentry Public Schools as our Administrative Assistant/HR person! Originally from Northern California, she spent many summers in Arkansas before making it her home in 2023. With a background in supervising, training, and case managing for Child Support and DHS, she has a strong passion for service. In her free time, she enjoys reading thrillers, exploring film as an art form, watching horror movies, doing Zumba, spending time with family, and caring for her dogs. She looks forward to getting involved in the community and becoming part of the GPS family!
