Pioneers, I wanted to provide a quick update on the District Baseball and Softball Tournaments, as well as the District Track Meet we are hosting this week. Due to weather-related adjustments: The semifinal round of the baseball and softball tournaments is now scheduled for Thursday afternoon, with the finals set for Friday. The District Track Meet has also been moved to Friday. I am excited to share that both our baseball and softball teams have advanced to the semifinals! We’d love to see you out there supporting our student-athletes if you’re able to attend. Check out the Gentry Athletics Website for full brackets and schedules. Thanks for your continued support and flexibility!

We are excited to welcome Taylor Lewis to Gentry Public Schools as our new Middle School Assistant Principal. Taylor holds a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Arkansas State University and a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from the University of Arkansas. He brings 12 years of teaching experience, having worked with students in every grade from 6th through 12th and covering nearly every mathematics subject along the way. Taylor even spent a year teaching preschool and English credit recovery—though, thankfully, not at the same time. Throughout his career, Taylor has taught and held teacher leadership roles at three different schools. He is thrilled to now call Gentry home and to join the Gentry School District. Taylor’s wife, Loren, serves as the Recruiting Director and HR Supervisor at Camp War Eagle. Together, they are raising two energetic boys who love soccer, Pokémon, Minecraft, and rollercoasters. Taylor feels deeply grateful and excited for the opportunity to be part of the Gentry School District, a community he describes as having prestige, heart, and incredible potential. He looks forward to serving the students, staff, and broader community and believes this opportunity marks the beginning of something truly special. In his free time, Taylor enjoys watching sports—especially cheering for the Arkansas Razorbacks, Philadelphia Eagles, and Golden State Warriors. He also loves playing video games with his family and is an enthusiastic fantasy football player. True to his background in math, Taylor often creates detailed spreadsheets for his fantasy teams—whether or not they improve his standings, they always make draft day a lot more fun.

Pioneer Relays Return in a Big Way: Over 20 Schools and 1,000 Athletes Visit Gentry This week, Gentry had the honor of hosting both junior high and senior high track meets, welcoming more than 20 schools and over 1,000 athletes to Pioneer Stadium. It was the first track meet held on our campus since 2018, and the energy, sportsmanship, and excitement from all participating teams made it a truly special occasion. Hosting these meets is a point of pride for our district, and we are grateful to the schools who attended, our volunteers, and our community members for helping make it possible. On April 8, the junior high track team rose to the occasion, competing well against a large and talented field. The boys finished 5th overall, while the girls placed 6th. Aja Smith stood out with a 3rd-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles, clocking in at 17.69 seconds—now the second-fastest time in school history. She also anchored the girls’ 4x100 relay team, joining Ryleigh, Kassidy, and Madison for a 3rd-place finish and a new school record of 55.44 seconds. That same group, with Whitney subbing in for Kassidy, also set a school record in the 4x200 relay with a time of 1:56.91, good for another 3rd-place finish. On the boys’ side, Dawson Pottridge had a strong performance, earning 2nd place in both the high jump (5'4") and pole vault (9'0"). The following evening, April 9, the senior high athletes delivered an impressive showing in front of the home crowd. Kacy Wood earned 2nd place in the discus with a throw of 99'4", and Phillip Thompson secured 3rd in the high jump with a personal best of 6'0". In a stacked field of throwers, Aiden Eller and Laine Philpot placed 7th and 8th respectively in the discus, both recording throws over 107 feet. Braden Woodcock continued his standout season by placing 3rd in the pole vault with a personal best of 11'6". The meet provided another excellent opportunity for our student-athletes to compete on their home turf and push themselves against strong competition.
