GENTRY, AR — Gentry Public Schools has received a $3,500 grant from Build My Future Northwest Arkansas to purchase safety equipment for students in the district’s welding program, strengthening opportunities for hands-on learning and career preparation.
The grant will fund 10 welding helmets, six welding jackets in smaller sizes and 10 pairs of Lincoln welding gloves. The equipment will help ensure students have properly fitted protective gear as they develop their welding skills through practical instruction.
Providing appropriate safety equipment is an essential part of preparing students for careers in the skilled trades. With the right protective gear, students can participate in hands-on learning experiences, develop safe work habits and gain experience with equipment and practices used in the industry.
“This grant is an investment in our students and their futures,” said Justin Blanchard, Gentry High School principal. “Hands-on learning gives students the opportunity to develop practical skills, build confidence and discover what they’re capable of doing. Having the proper safety equipment is essential to that experience, and we appreciate Build My Future for helping us provide students with the resources they need to learn and grow.”
Build My Future Northwest Arkansas works to increase awareness of careers in the skilled trades throughout Northwest Arkansas and the River Valley. Through grant funding and other initiatives, the organization helps schools strengthen career and technical education (CTE) programs and introduce students to opportunities in fields such as welding, construction and manufacturing.
Blanchard said the organization has played an important role in helping Gentry students explore career options, receive training and prepare for life after graduation.
The grant supports Gentry Public Schools’ broader commitment to preparing students for a successful future, whether they choose to enter the workforce, pursue additional technical training or continue their education. By combining practical experience with the equipment needed to learn safely, the district is helping students build skills that can carry into future careers.
