GENTRY, AR — Gentry Public Schools is continuing to experience positive enrollment growth, with current post-Labor Day numbers showing approximately 35 to 40 more K–12 students enrolled than at the same point last school year.

While enrollment naturally fluctuates throughout the school year and any enrollment count represents only a snapshot in time, district leaders say the current numbers are encouraging, particularly following the graduation of Gentry’s largest senior class in district history last spring.

“We’re encouraged by the steady, manageable growth we’re seeing,” said Superintendent Dr. Tyler Broyles. “It’s important to us that we grow responsibly, making sure we’re planning ahead for staffing, facilities and programs while continuing to provide a high-quality experience for the students and families we serve.”

The district’s recent growth also reflects a longer-term trend. Gentry has experienced continued enrollment growth over the past several years, with recent statewide data placing the district among Arkansas’ faster-growing school systems in both percentage growth and the number of students added. In the most recent one-year statewide comparison, fewer than one in five Arkansas school systems experienced enrollment growth.

Planning for Growth

Gentry Public Schools is actively investing in facilities and programs to accommodate continued growth.

Construction is underway on a new classroom addition and storm shelter at Gentry Middle School, while the district is also moving forward with the new Pioneer Arena. Other recent investments include the addition of Pre-K, expanded student programs and opportunities, regular purchases of new school buses, and continued improvements to district facilities.

The district has also expanded support for families. Students benefit from programs including no-cost school supplies through the district’s Ready Day One initiative, no-cost breakfast and lunch, complimentary K-12 admission to Gentry home athletic events, and other programs designed to reduce costs and provide additional opportunities for students and families.

“Growth gives us opportunities, but it also carries responsibility,” Broyles said. “We want to make sure we’re making thoughtful decisions today that position Gentry well for the future.”

Serving Students and Families

District officials emphasize that enrollment numbers will continue to move throughout the school year, and the current count should not be viewed as a prediction of where enrollment will ultimately finish.

What matters most, they say, is the broader trend.

“Gentry continues to grow, and we’re working hard to stay ahead of that growth,” said Director of Community Engagement Mark Scott. “We’re thankful for the confidence our students, families and community continue to place in Gentry Public Schools.”

With more than 1,800 students and hundreds of employees now part of the district community, Gentry Public Schools recognizes that questions and concerns will naturally arise in a school system of its size. District leaders encourage families to communicate directly with the person closest to a particular situation who can best provide assistance or an explanation.

“We’re always willing to listen,” Scott said. “Sometimes that means explaining why a decision was made, sometimes it means looking at something differently, and sometimes it means making an adjustment. That’s part of serving our students, families and community.”

As Gentry continues to grow, the district remains focused on providing a positive educational experience while responsibly preparing for what comes next, Broyles said.

“We’re grateful for our students, staff, families and community,” Broyles said. “They are what make Gentry such a special place to learn and grow.”
