GENTRY, AR — Gentry High School welcomed its newest students Thursday evening during Freshman Orientation, providing incoming freshmen with an opportunity to become familiar with their new school before the start of the 2026-27 school year.

The event introduced students to classrooms, the library, activity areas, and other important spaces throughout GHS. While parents participated in a session designed specifically for them, students broke into groups and rotated through informational sessions focused on helping them build a successful high school experience.

Topics included the importance of getting involved and making a difference, maintaining a strong grade point average, exploring the many resources available through the library, and reviewing the student handbook, including important information about bell schedules and student expectations.

The orientation was hosted by GHS principals, counselors, and other school leaders, who helped students learn more about the opportunities and expectations that come with becoming a Pioneer. FFA upperclassmen also assisted throughout the evening by helping students navigate the building and transition between sessions.

“Freshman Orientation is an important step in helping our newest Pioneers feel comfortable and prepared as they begin their high school journey,” said Gentry High School Assistant Principal Brian Little. “We want every student to know they are welcomed, supported, and have a place to get involved at GHS.”

Students and families are invited to attend the GHS Open House on Thursday, Aug. 6, from 5-7 p.m. The first day of school for the 2026-27 school year is Wednesday, Aug. 12.
