GENTRY, AR — Kristen Smartt, principal of Gentry Intermediate School, has successfully completed Phase I of the Arkansas Leadership Academy Master Principal Program, a prestigious professional development initiative designed to strengthen school leadership across the state.
Mrs. Smartt joined a select group of Arkansas school leaders in completing the first phase of the rigorous program, which focuses on developing principals’ leadership capacity in areas such as school vision, instructional leadership, organizational effectiveness, and student achievement.
The Master Principal Program was established by the Arkansas General Assembly and is administered by the Arkansas Leadership Academy to expand the knowledge base and leadership skills of public school principals throughout the state. The program consists of three phases, with participants demonstrating increasing levels of leadership growth, implementation, and impact on student learning as they progress.
The Master Principal Program requires participants to engage in intensive professional learning, apply research-based leadership practices within their schools, and demonstrate measurable progress in school improvement efforts. Future phases challenge principals to document evidence of student growth, strengthen stakeholder engagement, and create sustainable systems that support long-term success.
