GENTRY, AR — Gentry High School ninth grader Presley Holland was recently named a Borlaug Scholar following her outstanding performance at the World Food Prize Competition at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville.
The Borlaug Scholar designation, inspired by Nobel Peace Prize laureate Norman Borlaug, is awarded to top students who demonstrate excellence in research, critical thinking, and communication on issues related to global food security. The recognition is part of the broader World Food Prize Foundation programming, which encourages young people to explore solutions to hunger and agricultural challenges worldwide. Students who earn the honor gain access to unique opportunities, including potential USDA internships and international study experiences.
During the competition, students were tasked with researching a specific country, identifying a key food security challenge, and proposing a viable solution. Participants then presented their findings to a panel of judges, showcasing both their analytical skills and creativity.
Holland’s project stood out among her peers, earning her the prestigious Borlaug Scholar title and recognition for her hard work and dedication.
Her achievement brings pride to Gentry High School and its FFA program, as well as the broader community. Supporters say they look forward to seeing how Holland builds on this success as she continues pursuing her interests in agriculture and global food systems.
The Gentry FFA chapter is part of the national National FFA Organization, which prepares students for leadership and careers in agriculture through hands-on learning, competitions, and community involvement. At Gentry High School, the program has a strong tradition of student success, offering opportunities in agricultural education, leadership development, and career readiness. Achievements like Holland’s reflect the program’s ongoing commitment to cultivating the next generation of agricultural leaders.
