GENTRY, AR — Fifth grade students at Gentry received a preview today of what awaits them in middle school, with a special introduction to the district’s band and choir programs.

The event gave soon-to-be sixth graders the opportunity to hear directly from high school musicians, experience live performances, and learn more about what it means to be part of the music programs at Gentry Public Schools. Students also had the chance to ask questions and gain a better understanding of the expectations and opportunities available as they transition to middle school.

The interactive experience highlighted not only the musical aspects of the programs, but also the sense of community and growth they provide. High school students shared their own experiences, offering insight into how participation in band and choir has helped them build confidence, develop skills, and form lasting friendships.

In addition to showcasing musical talent, the event emphasized the wide range of opportunities available to students. Gentry Choir Director Tony Dutton noted that many high school musicians are also involved in athletics, academic teams, and student leadership activities, reinforcing the message that students can explore multiple interests while staying engaged in the arts.

Dutton and Ruby Contreras, Gentry's Band Director, say opportunities like this help ease the transition to middle school by giving younger students a clearer picture of what lies ahead while building excitement for the next stage of their education.
