GENTRY, AR — Simon Borntrager, a 10-year-old student at Gentry Intermediate School, has been recognized as a KNWA Super Weather Kid, earning a feature on a broadcast with Dan Skoff, Chief Meteorologist at KNWA-TV.

Simon’s fascination with weather has been evident from an early age. He enjoys studying storms, tracking weather patterns, and learning about meteorology. His interest intensified after the severe weather events in Northwest Arkansas in May 2024, which strengthened his passion for understanding storms and helping his community stay safe.

In addition to his love for weather, Simon is also a budding engineer and creative artist. He spends his free time building projects, exploring physics, and engaging in hands-on learning. One of his big dreams is to become a storm chaser, possibly piloting the famed Dominator 3, a specialized vehicle used by meteorologists to safely study tornadoes up close.

“Simon loves all things related to weather and has wanted to be a meteorologist or storm chaser as long as our family can remember,” said Danna Borntrager, Simon’s mother. “He spends his free time researching and learning about weather conditions, patterns, and hazards. He is always building something or studying physics and how things work. The May 2024 events in Northwest Arkansas solidified his passion for learning about weather and helping his community stay safe.”

The KNWA Super Weather Kid program highlights local students with a strong interest in meteorology and related sciences, giving young learners a chance to share their knowledge and enthusiasm on television.

Simon’s recognition reflects both his curiosity and dedication, and he hopes to inspire other students to explore science, creativity, and the exciting field of weather.
