GENTRY, AR -- Two groups of Gentry students earned top honors at the Northwest Arkansas Girl Power Competition in Farmington today, with both teams placing first in their respective divisions. With their wins, the students will advance to state competition Feb. 24.
The Girl Power Competition is designed to encourage and empower young women to pursue opportunities in trade fields. Participants are responsible for designing and completing their projects independently, showcasing both technical skills and creativity.
Competing in the Multi-Tool/Material category, Jade DeZurik and Paisley Amos designed and constructed a large sign using a ShopBot Wood CNC machine along with traditional carpentry tools. Their project incorporated both wood and PVC backboard materials, demonstrating precision craftsmanship and thoughtful design.
In the Wood Division, Ali Lee, Olivia Scribner, and Heidi Chamberlin created a set of four custom wood clocks representing different time zones. The team utilized a Glowforge laser cutter to bring their design to life, combining technical skill with artistic detail.
"The students’ first-place finishes reflect their dedication, innovation, and hard work," said Wendy Jackson, Gentry's CTE Leader and teacher. "We are proud of these young women for their outstanding achievements and for representing their school so well at the regional competition."
