GENTRY, AR -- The Gentry High School boys bowling team captured the 4A West Conference Championship last week, finishing first overall with a team score of 4,135.

Gentry opened the tournament with strong individual performances, posting a three-game total of 3,250 before securing the conference title over Pea Ridge, which finished second with a score of 3,986. Bauxite (3,829), Clarksville (3,445), Huntsville (3,307), Ozark (2,920), and Little Rock Hall West (2,471) rounded out the field.

The Pioneers placed five bowlers in the tournament’s top 10. Landen Drake earned the conference championship with a score of 632. Kade Willis finished sixth with a 554 and Laine Philpott placed seventh with a 553, with both earning All-Conference honors. Todd McLellan placed eighth with a 529, and Ethan Young finished 10th with a 513.

The Gentry girls bowling team also competed in the 4A West Conference tournament and finished third overall with a team total of 2,565, earning a spot in the state tournament. The Lady Pioneers recorded a 2,054 total in individual games to place second during that portion of competition.

Two Lady Pioneers finished in the top 10 individually. Alyssa Morton placed fifth with a score of 427 and was named to the All-Conference Team, while Peyton Insco finished eighth with a 399.

Both the boys and girls teams will compete in the state bowling tournament on Wednesday, Feb. 11, at Fast Lanes Entertainment in Rogers. Doors open at 9 a.m., with bowling scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
