GENTRY, AR — Gentry Public Schools is celebrating a significant milestone this fall, reporting that more than 200 additional students have been approved for free school meals compared to last year—thanks to the relentless efforts of the district’s Child Nutrition Team and the strong engagement of Pioneer families.
The impact of this increase goes far beyond numbers. It means that hundreds of students now have guaranteed access to nutritious meals every school day, while families across the district are experiencing meaningful savings—some equivalent to a car payment each month.
Behind this achievement is a team of committed Child Nutrition staff who dedicated countless hours to contacting families through calls, texts, social media posts, and face-to-face conversations. Their goal: ensure every eligible family had the information and support needed to complete the free and reduced meal application.
“This is one of the most impactful things we can do together for kids, families, and our district,” said Gentry Superintendent Dr. Tyler Broyles. “Our Child Nutrition Team worked very hard and very effectively to communicate with families because they knew what a difference it could make. Together with our effort to provide free school supplies at our primary school this year—and with hopes of expanding to more schools in the future—it helps fulfill our vision of making public school affordable for all during what are challenging times for many.”
The benefits of these approvals extend far beyond the cafeteria. Each completed application helps increase federal funding for the district, reduces unpaid lunch balances, and strengthens programs and services that benefit all students.
District leaders are calling this a “win for students, families, and the future of Gentry Schools,” crediting the success to a team effort between staff and the broader school community.
Gentry Public Schools remains committed to supporting families, reducing financial barriers, and ensuring every student has access to the resources they need to thrive.
