Crystal Bridges

GENTRY, AR — Gentry Middle School is partnering with Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art through the Middle School Arts Integration Pilot Program—a two-year initiative designed to enhance student learning by connecting the power of American art with classroom instruction, creative thinking, and community engagement.

This opportunity is entirely free to the school and funded by Crystal Bridges, with $30,000 in support over two years to provide field trips, classroom integration materials, in-class demonstrations, and even a community art installation.

“We’re excited about what this partnership brings to our students and teachers,” said Gentry Middle School Principal Dr. Elizabeth Wieneke. “This is about more than just art—it’s about helping students learn in deeper, more meaningful ways. It strengthens our curriculum, encourages creativity, and connects learning to the real world and to our community.”

The partnership is rooted in a simple but powerful belief: art has the ability to help all students learn by sparking curiosity, building connections across subjects, and encouraging students to express their ideas in meaningful ways. It also encourages communities to celebrate their own heritage, identity, and uniqueness through shared experiences.

Highlights of the Program Include:

  • A two-year, whole-school arts integration initiative

  • $30,000 in total funding to Gentry Middle School ($15,000/year)

  • Field trips to Crystal Bridges for students

  • Hands-on classroom demonstrations and support for teachers

  • Curriculum integration of American art across subjects

  • A school-wide community art installation project

Through the program, teachers will receive professional development and support to weave American art into core subjects like English, history, and science—making learning more engaging and memorable for students.

“This isn’t about turning students into artists,” Dr. Wieneke added. “It’s about giving them new tools to think critically, collaborate with others, and feel connected to what they’re learning. That’s what great teaching is all about.”

Crystal Bridges, located in Bentonville, is a nationally recognized museum known for its dedication to American art, education, and community partnerships. The Middle School Arts Integration Program is part of their broader mission to serve schools and communities across the heartland, celebrating what makes each one unique.

Gentry Middle School is one of a select group of schools chosen for the pilot program, and school leaders are confident the experience will have long-lasting benefits for students, teachers, and the entire Gentry community.
