School Board

GENTRY, AR — Gentry’s School Board has found a new permanent home for its meetings on the city’s Main Street, following an agreement with Gentry Mayor Kevin Johnston and the City Council. Gentry School Superintendent Dr. Tyler Broyles said the move will promote greater transparency and public access to school business.

The School Board will now permanently conduct its meetings at the City Council Chambers, located at 104 East Main Street in Gentry, after using the space on a trial basis in August and September. Previously, meetings took place in the hospitality room of the school’s indoor athletics facility.

Regular School Board meetings occur on the third Monday of each month, unless a holiday or other extenuating circumstance requires a change. The City Council meets on the first Monday of each month.

Last week, the Gentry City Council unanimously passed a resolution approving a memorandum of understanding with Gentry Schools for the shared use of the City Council Chambers. This agreement officially allows the School Board to use the chambers for meetings for free.

Dr. Broyles said the new location is comfortable for both board members and the public, offers more seating, and features enhanced technology for improved communication. It also provides additional space when an executive session is needed.

“This centralized location makes it easier for the public to attend both city and school meetings, which are open to the community,” he added. “We have many outstanding partnerships with the city, and this is the latest example of how our school and city work together in the best interest of our constituents.”

Mayor Johnston agreed, highlighting the benefits for parents and families in Gentry.

“Since the City and School District serve many of the same families and individuals, making our facilities available to support their efforts has been a natural and mutually beneficial decision,” he said. “We value every opportunity to strengthen our partnership and are excited to explore new ways to grow and serve our community together.”
