Gentry, AR — Gentry Intermediate School is serving up a fresh approach to reading thanks to 5th grade teacher Ms. Anna Aycock, who recently hosted a creative and engaging book tasting event in her classroom. Designed to introduce students to a variety of book genres in a fun, interactive setting, the event allowed students to “sample” different types of literature—just like trying out new dishes at a restaurant.
Each table featured books from a different genre, and students rotated through stations, getting a “taste” of what each category had to offer. From fantasy to historical fiction, mysteries to biographies, students explored stories outside their usual go-to picks.
“Our students were genuinely excited to dive into books they might not have picked up otherwise,” said Kristen Smartt, Principal of Gentry Intermediate School. “Thanks to Ms. Aycock’s creativity, reading feels like an adventure again. Events like this spark curiosity and help students build lifelong reading habits.”
The results were immediate: many students left the event with new favorites in mind and couldn’t wait to check them out from the GIS library. The energy and excitement around reading have continued to build throughout the week.
"A big congratulations to Ms. Aycock for inspiring a love of reading and making literacy both fun and meaningful for her students," Gentry Superintendent Dr. Tyler Broyles said.
