GENTRY, AR — Gentry Middle School opened its doors to new and returning families this week, hosting a warm and energetic orientation night for students and their families—especially the incoming sixth grade class. The event gave students a chance to tour the building, meet their teachers, and get excited for the year ahead.
The orientation marks the beginning of what promises to be another strong year at Gentry Middle School, a key part of the Gentry School District. Serving students in grades 6–8, the school is known not only for its rigorous academics but also for its commitment to helping students grow into thoughtful, responsible young people.
“Our team is excited to welcome our new students, and we’re especially proud to support our sixth graders as they begin this important transition,” said Principal Dr. Elizabeth Wieneke. “Orientation is a great way for families to see what makes Gentry such a supportive and inspiring place to learn.”
Helping Students Grow: What’s Happening Inside Gentry Middle
At Gentry Middle School, student growth is more than a motto—it’s a mission. The school focuses on three main academic goals: building strong reading and writing skills, using data to guide teaching, and making sure every student receives the support they need. Teachers collaborate in professional learning teams, constantly improving instruction and finding new ways to reach all learners.
In April 2025, the Gentry School Board approved more than $445,000 in new classroom materials, including updated reading and language arts tools called Core Knowledge Language Arts (CKLA). These resources are helping teachers meet state standards while supporting a wide range of learning styles.
Beyond academics, students are encouraged to participate in a variety of clubs, sports, and arts programs. These extracurriculars help students build friendships, develop new skills, and feel a sense of belonging in the school community.
Joining Dr. Wieneke on the administrative team this year is Assistant Principal Taylor Lewis, who brings a fresh perspective and a shared commitment to student well-being and academic growth.
As Gentry Middle School looks to the future, its focus remains clear: empowering students to succeed in high school—and in life. With caring teachers, a strong academic foundation, and a vibrant school community, Gentry Middle continues to be a place where young minds are supported, challenged, and inspired.
