Gentry, AR — Gentry High School is celebrating a major academic milestone as 58 students earned passing scores on their Advanced Placement (AP) exams this year. These scores qualify students to receive college credit for their coursework, potentially saving families more than $780,000 in future tuition costs. In total, the students earned the equivalent of 174 hours of college credit through their AP success.
Among the outstanding performances, three students achieved a top score of 5, the highest possible on the AP exam, demonstrating exceptional college-level mastery.
Anthony Herbaugh, AP Coordinator for Gentry Public Schools, commended both students and educators for their accomplishments:
“The students certainly put in a lot of hard work, but we also want to give a huge shout out to our AP teachers — Mrs. Hoyle (Art), Mr. Tu (Calculus), Mr. Jarvis (Chemistry), Mr. White (Literature and Language Composition), Mr. Carrell (Pre-Calculus), Mrs. Jones (Statistics), and Mr. Lowdermilk (U.S. History and World History). We are extremely proud of them and their continued efforts to provide these opportunities to our advanced students.”
Gentry Expands AP Program with New Course Offering
Building on this success, Gentry High School will introduce a new course, AP Seminar, beginning in August. This course marks the first step toward offering the AP Capstone Diploma, a rigorous academic program that prepares students for college and career success through research, collaboration, and critical thinking.
AP Seminar is a foundational course that engages students in cross-curricular conversations exploring complex academic and real-world issues. Using an inquiry-based approach, students learn to analyze diverse sources—including research studies, literature, speeches, and media—to develop evidence-based arguments and present them in both written and oral formats. The course emphasizes independent thinking, teamwork, and effective communication.
With the addition of AP Seminar, Gentry Public Schools continues its commitment to expanding access to advanced coursework and equipping students with the skills and knowledge needed for success beyond high school.
