Gentry, AR — From long-tenured educators to those newer to the profession, each Gentry school has named its Teacher of the Year, recognizing individuals who make a tremendous impact on the lives of students and colleagues alike.

Thomas Clement, an English/Language Arts teacher, has been selected as Gentry Middle School’s Teacher of the Year following a vote by his peers. Clement serves as a multi-classroom leader and is completing his second year at Gentry Middle School.

He earned a Bachelor of Science in English/Language Arts in Teacher Education from the University of Arkansas–Fort Smith and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in educational leadership and administration from Arkansas State University.

“It’s truly an honor to be recognized by my peers for my efforts,” Clement told his fellow teachers. “I’m grateful to be part of such a supportive and inspiring team — you all make working here the best!”

Gentry Middle School serves students in grades 6–8.

Gentry Intermediate School
Third-grade teacher Lisa Hillis was selected as the Teacher of the Year at Gentry Intermediate School, also through a vote by her fellow teachers. The school serves students in grades 3–5, and Hillis specializes in mathematics.

She is completing her 13th year as a third-grade teacher in Gentry, following a nine-year career at McKee Foods. Hillis earned her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Northeastern State University in Oklahoma and her Master of Science in Education, Curriculum and Instruction from Northwest Missouri State University. She is also a proud alumna of Gentry High School.

Gentry Primary School
Brandy Cordeiro, a 27-year veteran of Gentry Public Schools, has been named Teacher of the Year at Gentry Primary School, which serves grades kindergarten through second.

Cordeiro earned her bachelor’s degree from John Brown University and her master’s degree from the University of Arkansas.

“Brandy goes above and beyond to ensure all students succeed by using innovative teaching methods to make lessons engaging and memorable,” said Gentry Primary School Principal Devon Conrad. “She consistently motivates her students to reach their full potential, both in and out of the classroom.”

At Gentry High School, Alishia Ramsey has been selected as Teacher of the Year. With nearly two decades of service at the school, Ramsey teaches English/Language Arts — including Advanced Placement classes — and advises the student-led newspaper, The Pioneer Press. She also serves as the senior class sponsor and plays a key role in organizing graduation and other senior events.

Ramsey earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Arkansas-Little Rock.

“She is more than an English teacher — which she does very well — but she is also active throughout our building, and her impact is a major reason for our success,” said Gentry High School Principal Justin Blanchard. “She’s well loved by our kids and our staff, and she really deserves this honor.”
