Gentry, AR — From acing job interviews and understanding credit to navigating health insurance and car maintenance, Gentry High School students took a major step toward adulthood this week through the school’s “Adulting 101” program. The multi-day event brought in local professionals to provide students with practical knowledge and tools they'll need as they transition into life after high school.
Designed to help students build confidence and competence in essential life areas, “Adulting 101” featured hands-on sessions and interactive discussions led by community leaders and volunteers. Each presenter offered expertise on topics young adults often encounter in the real world but may not learn in traditional classroom settings.
“The ‘real world’ is fast approaching for many young adults, and these are great skills for all students to know,” said Melissa Fullmer, Gentry High School’s College and Career Coach. “We’re thankful for all the businesses and members of our community who participated and led real-world discussions with our students.”
Throughout the week, students engaged with the following topics and presenters:
Vehicle Care – Gentry Schools’ Transportation Department
Understanding Credit, Loans, and Banking – Kenzie from Arvest Bank
Job Interview Skills and Professionalism – Jamie from the Gentry Chamber of Commerce
Insurance Basics – Ken from Farmers Insurance
Mental Health and Self-Care – Lauren from the Joshua Center
Navigating the DMV – Local DMV representatives
College Planning and Course Selection – Gentry High School Counselors
Health Insurance 101 – Blue Cross Blue Shield
Taxes and Financial Planning – Providence Financial

The program reflects Gentry High School’s commitment to not only academic achievement but also real-world readiness. The school plans to continue offering life skills education to prepare students for success beyond graduation.
