Background

For the second year GHS organizations participated in the Chili Cook-Off.  Each team was required to pay a $15 entry fee and a matching donation from a local business. The Vocational Student Organizations raised over $450 to donate to the Gentry Public Library to help promote literacy.  The Gentry community is in the process of raising the funds required to build a new facility.  Current plans involve renovation of the historic Carl Hardware building located on Main Street at the intersection of Collins Avenue. Upon completion, this facility will house the Gentry City Library and a community center. This is the V.S.O.'s way of showing our support for the new city library.

A special thanks go out to our daring judges Paul Galyean (Decatur State Bank, Gentry Branch), Mayor Wes Hogue (City of Gentry), Carolyn Philpott and Pam Harrelson (Gentry Schools Central Office). Antacids, fire extinguishers, and emergency personnel were kept close at hand!
