IMPORTANT INFORMATION

 FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What time does school start each day?

The school is open at 7:30 a.m.  The cafeteria begins to serve breakfast at that time.  Classes begin at 8:00 a.m.  Students should arrive at school in time for the students to get to the classroom and be seated by 8:00 a.m.  It is important that all students get to school on time so that they don't miss getting a good start to the day.  Also, it keeps from interrupting the teacher and other students.   If your child arrives after 8:00 a.m., they must get a tardy slip before going to the classroom.

What time does school end each day?

Walkers are released at 3:00 p.m.  Students are escorted to the front of the building and parents can pick them up there.  Bus riders begin boarding the buses at approximately 2:45 p.m.  Any student leaving school prior to 3:00 p.m. must be checked out through the office.  Parents are asked to keep Early Check-Outs to a minimum due to the interruption to classroom time.

Why are tardies and early check-outs a problem?

Repeated tardiness and early check-outs are violations of state attendance laws.  Constant interruptions impact the learning process for all students and are distracting to the teacher.

What is the policy on parent visitors?

Parents are welcome to visit the school!  All visitors must sign in and get a visitor sticker immediately upon arrival at school.  If you wish to visit a classroom, please arrange visits with your child's teacher through e-mail or the office so that the teacher can set aside a time that won't interrupt instruction time.  Please remember that teachers are busy before school and at the end of the day working with their students.  All visits need to be scheduled.  Thank you for your cooperation.

 What about volunteering?

Gentry Primary School loves our volunteers!  There are many different ways that our volunteers provide valuable services to our students and staff.  A volunteer sheet is sent home monthly listing the many ways you can volunteer.

Check out our Parent-Teacher Organization too!  The dates and times of the P.T.O. Meetings are published in the monthly newsletter.  Everyone is encouraged to become involved with this wonderful organization.

How do I know what's going on in the classroom?

Open communication between home and school is an important tool in your child's education.  Each staff member has an e-mail account.  Parents are always welcome to call the school.  You can leave a message and the teacher will call you back as soon as possible.  Monthly newsletters, weekly classroom letters and the Gentry Primary School announcements on the internet are all designed to keep you informed of the "goings-on" at school.

What should I do if my child is absent?

Please notify the school by calling the office at 479-736-2380 or sending a note with your child upon his/her return to school.  If your child sees a doctor, dentist or other health care provider, please get a note for your child's file.

What if my child gets sick at school?

If your child becomes sick or gets hurt at school, the school nurse will evaluate the situation and contact the parents as needed.  If parents are unavailable, she will call the emergency contact number that you gave the office.  It is important that you notify the office if your address, home or work phone number or emergency contact information changes.
