IMPORTANT INFORMATION

IMPORTANT INFORMATION  FROM THE POLICE CHIEF; KEITH SMITH

Mrs. Waters,
Good morning.  We are having problems with parents turning left onto S. Little St., from W. 2nd St.  The Gentry City Council recently voted to amend a city ordinance whereby, drivers may no longer turn South, onto S. Little St., from W. Second St.  A traffic sign has been posted just East of the intersection of S. Little St. and W. 2nd St., to advise West bound motorists they may not make a left turn at the intersection.  Many drivers however, are still doing this.  This change was brought about due to complaints by Gentry School bus drivers and school officials regarding limited space to turn on that street and as well, a MVA involving a Gentry School bus and several near misses, involving buses.  As you know, the safety of our children riding these buses, drivers and as well, other motorists in the area, is of paramount importance to both the Gentry Schools and the Gentry Police Department.
I am requesting that you send a note home with students, asking parents who pickup their children at the South entrance of your building to refrain from making a left turn at this intersection.  Officers will begin strict enforcement of this new law very soon.  It is our hope that no citations have to be issued to gain compliance however, this will happen very soon.  I am hoping, with your assistance, we may be able to correct the problem before we suffer another MVA involving a bus.
Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns.  Your anticipated assistance in this matter is most greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Keith H. Smith
Chief
